Chairman, Southern Africa
Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu is the former Economic Advisor to the President of the Republic of South Africa and former Chairman of the Steering Committee of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD). Professor Nkuhlu was the Head of the Secretariat and Chairman of the Steering Committee since the inception of the programme in 2001. It has now become the most ambitious renewal programme for Africa and enjoys support from all over the world.
Professor Nkuhlu served as a director of a number of major companies, including Standard Bank, South African Breweries, Old Mutual, Tongaat Hulett, BMW and JCI. He also played a leading role in development as Chief Executive of the Independent Development Trust for three years and as Chairman of the Development Bank of Southern Africa from 1993 to July 2000.
He was elected President of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and served two terms, from April 1998 to April 2000.
Current directorships include; Kagiso Trust Investments, AngloGold Ashanti (Pty) Ltd and Datatec Limited. He is also Chairman of Pan-African Capital Holdings (Pty) Ltd and nonexecutive chairman of Bigen Africa (Pty) Ltd and Kagiso Investments.
