africapractice Launches Immersion Workshop

Date: 08/06/2009

Political, cultural and economic issues of doing business across the continent

africapractice is launching an Africa Immersion programme, designed to provide senior executives with an insightful overview of the continent, in just one day.

Improved governance and macro-economic reforms have opened up investment opportunities in countries that previously did not feature on investors’ radars. With a billion people in 54 countries, Africa boasts some of the fastest growing economies in the world today.

However, for business leaders new to the continent, or familiar with only their own home market, understanding the vast economic, political and cultural disparities across Africa is crucial. Companies that have already benefited from Africa Immersion include Diageo and Unilever.

The workshop unpacks the diversity of the African continent, mixing socioeconomic statistics, facts and data alongside anecdotes and practical experiences gained over thirty years of doing business on the continent.

The workshop is divided into five modules, tailored to each company depending on the sector and the markets it is looking to target or move in to, whether from South Africa to West or from overseas into East Africa, for example.

1. History and Culture
2. Business & Economics
3. Politics & People
4. Governance
5. Environment & Sustainability

The Africa Immersion workshop is available in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and the UK, where africapractice’s main offices are located.
