Pan-African communications consultancy africapractice has signed a partnership agreement with Rosebank Consulting Nigeria to strengthen the capacity of African businesses to identify, implement and effectively communicate their environmental management processes and policies.
africapractice and Rosebank Consulting will provide businesses, initially in Nigeria and then across Africa, with the advice and tools needed to manage environmental and social risks and to communicate their message to the right audience.
The private sector is the engine of economic growth and is pivotal to alleviating poverty. However, African economies need to grow 7 per cent or more every year to significantly reduce poverty, and economic growth does not always mean environmental sustainability or an equal distribution of wealth.
“The partnership between africapractice and Rosebank Consulting aims to support the growth of the African private sector for the benefit of its people, environment and society as a whole. The partnership signifies an increasing understanding from both the African private sector and the public sector of the importance of a responsible, ethical and vibrant private sector,” commented Marcus Courage, Managing Director of africapractice.
The first outcome of the partnership will be a series of joint seminars in Lagos, Nigeria for the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) during 2009. These will include courses on measuring carbon footprints for the cement sector using internationally recognised methodologies such as the Green House Gas Protocol and corporate citizenship reporting for Nigerian companies. The training courses will then be expanded and offered in other African countries such as Kenya, Uganda and Ghana.
Kehinde Johnson, Managing Partner of Rosebank Consulting, explained, “This is the first time that a set of certified courses has been carried out in Nigeria. Our partnership with africapractice will empower Nigerian businesses and businesses beyond Nigeria to identify, implement and effectively communicate their environmental management processes and policies”.
