Diageo Africa - Newsdesk: Business Africa

Building on the success of the DABRA programme, africapractice worked with Diageo to develop a tool for students and aspiring journalists to build capacity in African business reporting. It is widely acknowledged that negative perceptions of Africa act as a major obstacle to the continent’s development. In particular, widespread misperceptions about business opportunities are hindering the ability of African nations to attract investment.

Newsdesk: Business Africa is an innovative and creative learning tool that enables students to develop journalism skills whilst exploring contemporary development issues in Africa. Students are able to build their own perspectives of African business, presented as a three-minute TV news feature with their own voiceover to complete the presentation.

Newsdesk: Business Africa was launched at the UN Plaza in New York on the eve of the 2006 UN General Assembly, by Professor Firmino Mucavele, CEO of the NEPAD Secretariat, to an audience of African business and development leaders.
