BBC World Service Trust – Launch of the African Media Development Initiative

africapractice managed the PR launch and a panel discussion of the prestigious African Media Development Initiative (AMDI) in January 2007 by the BBC World Service Trust, the BBC’s independent international charity. We raised awareness of the AMDI study amongst target audiences and built the media profile of the BBC, developing a constituency of support for the next stage of the AMDI process. The research was born out of the 2005 UK Commission for Africa, which identified the critical role of the media in aiding good governance and helping to advance economic and social development in Africa.

The launch was attended by African, UK and US media, together with Government agencies and other funders active in development in Africa, as well as NGOs and the academic/research community focused on media development and governance issues. The launch and panel discussion was addressed by the Honourable Mutahi Kagwe MP (former Minister for Information and Communications), Wilfred Kiboro (former Chief Executive, Nation Media Group) and the Director of the BBC World Service Trust, Stephen King.
