Job Description of a Videographer/Editor

 

Job Title: Cameraman-Video Editor

Location: Somalia

Type of contract: 1 year, extendable

Line Manager: Senior Cameraman, MIA, Mogadishu

Duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Perform news related videography and editing assignments;
  • Contribute to story ideas especially human-interest features;
  • Record, edit and tweak content to ensure logical sequencing;
  • Advise client on the visual impact created by particular shots;
  • Manage and distribute own work and that of other videographers;
  • Archive work by storing them into files on the computer or hard drive;
  • Write short scripts and shot list in a clear and precise manner;
  • Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of equipment;
  • Keep records and be accountable for the safekeeping of equipment under your jurisdiction;
  • Train Sector videographers and AMISOM staff members on videography and camera techniques when required;
  • Produce social media content for sharing on AMISOM, UNSOS and UNSOM online platforms.

 

Competencies:

 

  • Knowledgeable in digital technology and digitisation of sound and pictures;
  • Ability to edit rough cut VNR and packaged features using Final Cut software;
  • Ability to correct faulty footage, grading, colouring and adding special effects;
  • Be familiar with Outside Broadcasts or filming live events;
  • Experience working in a fast paced, deadline driven news environment;
  • Ability to work long hours and under pressure;
  • Experience working in conflict zones and/or under tough conditions;
  • Good organizational skills and ability to plan work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to find solutions to technical and other practical problems encountered on a shoot;
  • Ability to work effectively with a team;
  • Is motivated and shows resilience under difficult situations;
  • Is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results;

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Should have undergone tertiary education preferably an undergraduate degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in camerawork and editing.
  • Experience working with an established media house or news agency.
