Title: Senior Consultant, Government Affairs and Corporate Communication

Location: Madagascar

Type of contract: 12 months, extendable

africapractice is a strategy and communications consultancy. We advise industry and governments, helping them to identify opportunity, manage risk and overcome critical communications challenges. We combine strategic communications with political risk analysis and advisory services.

Our clients are among the largest institutions, companies and investors on the African continent. We help them to manage complex relationships with demanding and critical audiences including regulators, media, capital markets, customers and suppliers. 

We are looking for a Senior Consultant for a 12 months extendable assignment for one of our clients’ in the extractive industry.

 The position requires the ideal candidate to have the capability to;

  • Manage corporate communications and position the Client as a major contributor to the country and Madagascar socio-economic growth in line with the national plans, the African Mining Vision and SDG,
  • Build and manage complex and sensitive stakeholder relationships to strengthen the client’s reputation

 

Qualifications and Specialist Skills

The ideal candidate should have;

  • A minimum 5 years relevant experience, preferably in mining and extractive industry,
  • Knowledge of the SDGs, Agenda 2063, African Mining Vision, and EITI framework would be a strong added advantage
  • Knowledge of Malagasy politics and the current government’s agenda would be a strong added advantage
  • Excellent consulting and crisis management skills,
  • Strong proven project management and client relationship building skills
  • Bilingual French and English

 

Key responsibilities:

 

The key responsibility of this role is to support the development of our client's Government Affairs and Communication Department. The position requires the ideal candidate to implement the Communications Strategy towards high level stakeholders to raise the client’s profile and establish its reputation in the country.

Other responsibilities are;

 

  • Support our client to anticipate political, regulatory and reputation risk by collecting intelligence and designing mitigation strategies to navigate risks as they emerge.
  • Effectively map and continuously align the Client’s agenda with the country socio-economic trajectory
  • Support the engagement of key officials at highest level of public administration, national and regional i.e.  map stakeholders, build strong relationships, organise meetings, prepare content for engagements and ensure follow up
  • Media relations; Point of contact for media; liaise with the media both national and international, build relationships through regular informal engagements, manage requests, produce content, organise interviews and media site visits and oversee roll out of social media strategy;
  • Assure quality control (overseeing role) and production of content and collateral when necessary to support official and media engagements
  • Assure quality control and alignment of communication content used for community engagement with corporate communication 
  • Oversee content production from team members located on the mine site
